Observations of The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)

IC 1644

Andrew Murrell

This nebulae looks like a planetary nebulae right down to the slight Aqua colouring. It appears to be about 30" across and is round in shape. The edges of the object appear fuzzy at powers of 150 and above. IC 1644 has an even surface brightness. There are no stars scattered across the nebulae or situated near. At 350 power the nebulae looses the distinctive colouring.

Is this object really in the cloud, or is it a planetary nebulae associated with the Milky Way?

The objects radial velocity indicates that it belongs to the cloud. I have not been able to locate any information on this object to give it a better description of what it is. Does anyone have any answers?

Max Gardner

Observed with an 18" f4.5 NGT. This nebulae appeared as a hazy bright nebulous patch. Trapezium shaped and very dense. Observed on a night of poor seeing, so no resolution noticed.
