Observations of The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)

Kron 50

Andrew Murrell

Is a very small cluster about 30" across and appearing comet like at high magnification. The cluster has a fairly high surface brightness, with a bright nucleus. A star of 13th magnitude is located on the northern edge of the cluster. The cluster shows partial resolution at 300x. Kron 50 appears to respond to the OIII filter slightly, so there may be nebulae associated.

Max Gardner

Observed with an 18" f4.5 NGT. Kron 50 appeared as a small distinct round haze, partially resolved. A couple of stars between 14-15th magnitude are visible. The cluster is about 1' across.
