Observations of The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)

Kron 57

Andrew Murrell

This faint 1' diameter cluster is best viewed at 300x. The cluster does not resolve and no stars are scattered near the cluster. The cluster' illdefined edge and it's low surface brightness make this a good challenge object for observers with large aperture scopes. The OIII filter did not assist, and it was not visible through the 14" mask.

Max Gardner

Observed with an 18" f4.5 NGT. Kron 57 is a very dense, round cluster with a sharp edge. It is unresolved through the 18".
