Observations of The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)

Lindsay 66

Is a small open cluster that is very faint, but may have a very bright compact nucleus. The cluster appears to be superimposed over three stars in a line orientated east west, with the star in the middle being centered on the cluster. The cluster is poorly detached from the background sky making it a challenge for even experienced observers. There appear to be 2 or 3 faint star scattered across the face of the cluster. The cluster appears to have a diameter of approximately 20". Observations with the OII filter did not reveal any nebulae associated with the cluster. Lindsay 66 does not look like a deep sky object and may be missed by a number of observers. This is a good challenge cluster for large aperture telescopes.
