Observations of The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)

NGC 411

Is a globular cluster measuring 4' diameter and appears to be partially resolved. The cluster has a strong central condensation. A slight flattening of the cluster is visible, even at low power, and the cluster is bright enough to be seen easily with an 8" scope. A star of 14th magnitude lies off the western edge of the globular. Due to the size and brightness of NGC 411, the cluster is well defined from the background sky, and is one of the few clusters that actually appear like a globular cluster.
