Observations of The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)

NGC 419

Andrew Murrell

This globular cluster has a diameter of about 4' and is quite bright. It can be found on the south western edge of the SMC, and is visible through a 4" scope. The cluster has a slight brightening toward the middle, otherwise the surface brightness is fairly even. No stars are resolved throughout the cluster, with only a 13th magnitude star positioned on the south western edge. Due to the clusters high brightness it appears to be well detached from the background sky.

Timo Karhula

Observed with 20x80 binoculars and described as pretty bright and pretty small.
