Observations of The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)

Kron 54

Andrew Murrell

Is a very small open cluster with a diameter of about 30". The cluster appears to be similar to Kron 50. It has a marginally higher surface brightness, with a star of 13th magnitude situated slightly west of the cluster. No other stars are visible associated with the cluster, and it does not resolve. The cluster does not respond to an OIII filter.

Max Gardner

Observed with an 18" f4.5 NGT. Kron 54 appeared as a comet shaped haze with a star of 13th magnitude at the head. The tail points to the southeast. The OIII filter enhances the tail effect and suggests that the object is a cluster with associated nebulae.
