Observations of The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC)

Lindsay 80

Lindsay 80 is a very faint open cluster. It has a diameter of 1.5', and is difficult to define against the starry background. The cluster does not resolve, and no stars are visible scattered across the face except for a 14th magnitude star located on the north western edge of the object. There did not appear to be any brightening in the middle of the cluster. The OIII filter did not reveal any associated nebulosity. This is a cluster that will present a challenge to observers with 16" and smaller scopes. The cluster is located about 8' north of NGC 419.
